Sixth grade social studies classes are beginning to implement the instructional practices that have been used in 5th grade social studies. Some of the instructional practices that we implemented from TCRWP include:
Demonstration
Explanation and Example
Guided Practice or Coaching
Proficient Partner
Inquiry
Book Introductions
Close Reading
Read Aloud
Shared Reading
Centers
The common thread through all of this work is note taking. Students shared their notebooks as they learned in centers. Note taking strategies are carried over from reading and writing workshop and students will continue to build on these skills and reflect on the note taking strategies they develop through these units of study in social studies.
